What are Latisse® and Careprost?
It is the only treatment that the FDA approves for thinning eyelashes. Unfortunately, Latisse® / Careprost is only available by prescription. However, Fit Life Med Spa professionals are experienced in using Latisse® / Careprost. They will help you achieve the dramatic eyelashes you always wanted.
Bimatoprost is an active ingredient formulated as a prescription treatment for glaucoma. In 2001, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved it. However, the health care providers noticed fuller and thicker eyelashes as a side effect of bimatoprost, which was an unexpected benefit for the patients.
More than 300 participants were involved in a further study. This study showed that 78% of participants experienced the following:
- Eyelash length – 25% increase
- Eyelash thickness – 106% increase
- Eyelash darkness – 18% increase
In 2008, looking at the results of these studies, the FDA approved Latisse® / Careprost for treating thinning eyelashes. Due to its effectiveness, it has become a popular product.
Is Latisse® / Careprost treatment suitable for you?
Before prescribing Latisse® / Careprost, your medical professional will ensure that you are in good health by asking the following questions:
- Are you pregnant or nursing?
- Do you have conjunctivitis or eye infection?
- Do you have any allergies or irritation around your eyes?
- Are you currently treating your glaucoma?
- Do you have any history of allergies to bimatoprost?
If the answer is yes to any of these questions, you may need to either delay the Latisse® / Careprost treatment or you will have to consider an alternative for it.
It is safe to use Latisse® / Careprost for most people as it is an FDA-approved treatment for your eyelashes. After filling your prescription for Latisse® / Careprost, you will be given a sterile applicator and the medication.
How does it work?
You should follow a proper routine to apply Latisse® / Careprost. Many people conveniently use it at night and make it a part of their bedtime routine. But before applying, you should remove the eye makeup and contact lenses.
By holding the applicator horizontally, squeeze one drop of Latisse® / Careprost into the stem of the applicator. Do not touch the applicator’s tip and the bottle’s opening with your fingers. It could contaminate it with bacteria that can cause infection.
For using the applicator, just stroke it carefully and lightly along the edge of your upper eyelid at the base of your eyelashes; start from the inside corner and sweep outward. Please do not drop it directly on your eyelid. It could spread the medication over the eyelids and into your eyes.
After applying the medication, if it spreads beyond your eyelid, carefully blot your skin as Latisse® / Careprost can grow hair on any skin if it is applied repeatedly. You can avoid hair growth from places where you don’t want it by removing it. Use Latisse® / Careprost every time before bedtime, but if you missed on any day, do not apply it twice the next day.
When can you start getting results?
The growth phase of the hair follicle can last up to one to two months. Latisse® / Careprost extends the growth phase and does not interfere with the natural growth cycle. Hence you will have to have faith and patience for the results. You will not get instant results. In six to eight weeks of treatment, you will observe new lash growth, and full results will be visible in 16 weeks. At this point, your medical consultant will assess the growth of your lashes and will guide you on further use of Latisse® / Careprost. But if you stop using it, the development of your lashes will return to its pre-treatment state.
Latisse® / Careprost is a prescription medication used under the guidance of a qualified medical professional. Our proficient team will guide you on the usage of Latisse® / Careprost and will address all your concerns about this procedure for thinning eyelashes.
