How to maintain a youthful appearance?

A recent study in Germany states that a woman’s skin on her hands, arms, and chest reflects her age. That means you should also worry about the skin on other body parts and your face when aging.

Aging is unavoidable, but while aging, why don’t we try to do everything in our control that would slow down the process? Of course, your genes and the hot sun can impact aging, but other factors are too. So, let’s discuss how you can maintain a youthful appearance.

  • Avoid the sun:

Sun plays a vital role in the appearance of your skin. The harmful UV rays are responsible for 90% of your skin damage and visible aging signs. UV rays can damage your skin by breaking down its elastin, causing a dull and saggy appearance, age spots, uneven skin tone, wrinkles, etc.

However, remember that the sun’s rays are out and can damage your skin whether it is sunny or not. So, apply sunscreen every day and reapply in a few hours for maximum protection.

  • Drink a lot of water:

You should keep your body hydrated. Water can make your skin look radiant and support optimal health when consumed at least eight glasses every day. On the other hand, dehydration can affect your skin by making it look dull and dry, accentuating aging and wrinkles. Drinking a good amount of water can refill your skin’s cells and tissues resulting in healthier and younger-looking skin.

  • Get some rest:

Rest is essential for increased concentration, mental health and memory, reduced stress, better immune system, metabolism, and improved mood. When you sleep, your body releases hormones promoting cell turnover and regeneration. At this time, you should use age-defying actives like beta hydroxy acid and retinoids, which are wrinkle erasers and effective exfoliants. But these products may increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun, so you should be extra cautious with your sunscreen.

To add it further, consider using a satin pillow cover, and tossing and turning on a rough fabric like cotton can break down the collagen in your skin, resulting in wrinkles.

  • Use a good moisturizer:

Water keeps your skin hydrated, but you will have to ensure to use a moisturizer that suits your skin. Hydrated skin looks better and vigorously fights off the irritants. Humectants and emollients in a moisturizer can make your skin feel supple and soft. Humectant keeps your skin hydrated by drawing in water from the air. Emollients help strengthen your skin’s hold in moisture and lipid barrier. Creams and moisturizers have different contents.   • Eat a healthy diet:

Research shows that vigorous exercise can slow down your aging process at a cellular level of around ten years. This is because exercise boosts blood flow and circulates proper oxygen and other nutrients all over the body leading to a youthful appearance. In addition to this, regular exercise can help maintain muscle mass and strength that could increase your lifespan.

  • Limit caffeine and alcohol:

We all love a good cup of latte or a glass of martini, and both can have their health benefits if consumed in fewer quantities. However, consuming it too much can adversely affect your skin. Both can eliminate the critical nutrients while dehydrating your body. The worst part is that its effects can be permanent. 

While the above steps can maintain a youthful appearance, you should also follow a good routine. A good skin routine can include an exfoliant, cleanser, serum, etc. Of course, you should also choose products depending on your skin type. But, again, taking good care is the only alternative for youthful skin.
